Kemtile, a division of Stonhard, has completed a transformative flooring renovation at one of the UK’s leading sustainable and recyclable glass and metal packaging factories.
The company produces packaging for many of the world’s biggest food, beverage and consumer care brands, and its facility required a code-coloured surface to complement a brand-new bottle-blowing machine.
Kemtile had previously completed a project for the site in a neighbouring town - where popular whiskey bottles are created - and additional work in another city, adding Basalt Sets to troughs where molten glass drops into water and is “scalped” away to be recycled.
After enjoying excellent results at these locations, operators at the brand asked Kemtile to strip away the old red tiles surrounding the bottle-blowing machine and add new yellow replacements that demarcated the “hot end” of the operation.
The job was completed in stages over an eight-month period using Stonhex BS - a thick, ceramic floor tile fit to withstand the high temperatures of hot glass.
Kemtile successfully fitted the solution and navigated multiple challenges of a complex environment - completing a successful installation that will last for many years.
Project lead Mark Appleton stated: “We have done a lot of work with the client in the past and they knew we were the right team to complete this challenging brief.
“We selected specifically coloured tiles to denote the hot end of the factory as an essential safety precaution - using a material that would not only provide aesthetic value for health and safety reasons but also withstand exposure to extremely high temperatures.
“The results were exactly what we wanted - and the fact that the client continues to turn to us for complex flooring renovations is a testament to the capabilities and resources we have at our disposal here at Kemtile.”
Kemtile completes flooring work with state-of-the-art, industry-leading Stonhard tiles across the UK and beyond in multiple industries.
