Kemtile has delivered a 500m2, HACCP-accredited flooring solution for a multinational condiment sauce manufacturer.
Hygiene is the top priority for any food and beverage business - and the client also required a flooring solution that could withstand the movements of expensive heavy base ingredients moved around on pallet trucks.
The new floor needed to be robust in design as well as being able to accommodate movement as the installation on a concrete plank design.
The client contacted Kemtile, a division of Stonhard, because Stonhard materials have been used to great success at other brand sites - with a ‘single-source’ service delivering the complete project from start to finish.
Kemtile conducted a number of on-site visits and supplied valuable design details for the flooring solution, with cores taken to establish the makeup and thickness of the existing floor and to determine what needed to be removed and what could remain.
Based on the survey, the flooring experts removed some sections of existing tiles that were de-bonded and repaired an area of raised concrete that was badly cracked. Kemtile then installed a new high-performance, seamless Stonhard finish incorporating Stonproof RH7, a crack bridging and waterproofing membrane to certain sections of the floor.
Stonproof RH7 is designed for horizontal areas where waterproofing and crack bridging are required. It is flexible yet reinforced to handle substrate movement that would normally cause overlayment failure.
The final floor finish recommended was Stonclad UR, a high impact-resistant mortar with excellent abrasion, thermal shock, thermal-cycling, and chemical-resistant characteristics which makes it ideal for hygienic environments. Part of the extensive range of Stonclad flooring systems, Stonclad UR is a unique polyurethane flooring system that can be power trowelled - meaning large areas can be installed very quickly. The floor was completed in a “special” blue colour to complement the existing colour scheme in the area.

The Project Manager at the condiments factory commented: “The Kemtile team worked very professionally and completed the entire project within two weeks causing no disruption to our operations.”
Mike Sleight of Kemtile, who led the project, said: “The flooring will not only help the brand meet the rigorous health and safety legislation around food production, it’s been laid to last.”
“It is designed to withstand all the rigours, including high-pressure clean-down processes, of a modern manufacturing plant which prides itself on quality. We also managed to complete the whole job with little impact on the plant’s busy production schedule.”
