Wall protection for food processing units

Modern food processing environments make hygiene a priority and kerbs therefore should be constructed with materials that are chemical, impact and water resistant. CleanRock® kerbs and plinths from Polysto provide a solution to the hygiene challenges posed by kerbs made of concrete or steel.

Kemtile's pre-fabricated CleanRock® kerb systems

These kerb systems are made by mixing polyester resins and quartz granulates with the surface and then finished with a bacteriostatic and shock-resistant polyester gel coat. In the production of these CleanRock® kerbs, a monolithic system is created by moulding together the polyester quartz mass with the polyester gel coat covering. Both materials have the same chemical structure (polyester), which creates a strong kerb that is easy to clean. They are easily repaired on site and designed to prevent contaminations

Recycled Material Innovation from Polysto.

PolySto has introduced a new generation of hygienic CleanRock® kerbs incorporating recycled material. As one of the leading suppliers of hygienic construction solutions for the food processing industry and a valued partner to Kemtile, the company developed a new composition that combines improved hygienic performance and long-term durability with a lower environmental impact.

The new PolySto CleanRock® kerbs are manufactured from a next-generation composite of high-performance polyester resins, quartz granules, carefully selected additives, and recycled Fiberglass-Reinforced Polyester (FRP) recovered from PolySto's own CleanSheet wall and ceiling panel production. By reusing production offcuts within its manufacturing process, PolySto reduces waste while maintaining the mechanical performance required in food-processing facilities. The non-porous composite absorbs no water, provides exceptional impact resistance and creates a durable, watertight barrier that helps prevent bacterial contamination at the wall-floor transition. As a lightweight prefabricated system, CleanRock® also enables faster installation without compromising protection and hygienic performance.

Active control of water behaviour on a food factory floor

Beyond the new formula with recycled materials, the CleanRock® kerbs feature a new patented foot design. Installed on the finished floor, the unique foot geometry provides extra hygienic advantages.

The first is CleanWave, which actively controls water behavior. During high-pressure washdowns, traditional coved skirtings can create uncontrolled splash-back, spreading contaminated water onto surrounding walls. CleanWave guides rinse water in a controlled direction towards drainage channels, improving daily cleaning efficiency while helping reduce water and cleaning agent consumption.

Robust wall to floor transition

The second advantage is CoveProtect. The integrated foot geometry acts as a protective edge, shielding the floor coving from mechanical impact, reducing damage to vulnerable edges and extending the service life of the installation.

The wall-floor transition is one of the most critical areas in any food production facility. Kerbs are continuously exposed to water, impact and aggressive cleaning chemicals. When materials crack, absorb moisture or deteriorate, they can create hidden contamination points that are difficult to detect during routine inspections.

Pathogens such as Listeria and Salmonella thrive behind damaged kerbs, inside open joints and within micro-cracks. High-pressure cleaning does not eliminate these risks and may even spread contamination throughout the production area. Because kerb failures often remain unnoticed until significant damage occurs, issues are often detected too late. The result: failed audits, production stops or product recalls.
