Winterbotham Darby chilled foods
Kemtile was recently invited back to chilled food supplier Winterbotham Darby – this time to design and install a complete hygienic flooring and drainage system at its manufacturing site in Bicester. Following a £multi-million refit, it’s been transformed into a dedicated plant-based food manufacturing facility – a “centre of excellence” and home to the Squeaky Bean brand. Kemtile was appointed for the three-month project following the successful completion of a previous job at Winterbotham Darby’s head office in Redhill, Surrey.

The Kemtile flooring solution
Kemtile installed a 975m2 heavy-duty polyurethane floor screed in blue and red to distinguish low and high care production areas. Added biocide protection provides a robust and highly resistant hygienic floor finish that’s able to withstand this rigorous manufacturing environment. After the initial installation of the Wiedemann-Technik DRS drainage, Kemtile then installed 600m2 of its high strength Co-Polymer underlayment floor screed to “falls”. The project was completed with the installation of 100m of CleanRock® kerbs. Manufactured by Polysto, they overcome hygiene challenges posed by kerbs made of concrete or steel.
Durable and easy to clean floor
Kemtile finished the system with a bacteriostatic and shock-resistant polyester gel coat – creating a very durable HACCP and EHDGE-approved kerb that’s easy to clean.
Entire hygienic flooring design and install
Kemtile was able to design and install the entire project requirements, providing a single source supply of hygienic drainage, polyurethane flooring that incorporated a biocide additive for extra hygiene protection and unique HACCP approved PolySto composite kerbs.
