Kemtile, a division of Stonhard, has successfully delivered a chemically resistant flooring solution for a multinational appliance company.

Specialising in the design and manufacturing of household items such as vacuum cleaners, air purifiers, hand dryers, bladeless fans, heaters, hair dryers, and lights, the business production facilities involve the use of various chemicals, solvents, and cleaning materials.

In order to withstand chemical spillage and enhance safety at its manufacturing facility in Oxford, the firm required a robust chemically resistant flooring system. Based on the recommendation provided by Technology Park, the appliance business appointed Kemtile to provide a single-source solution.

Kemtile installed 100m2 of the Stonchem 678, a heavy-duty solution which is resistant to harsh chemicals such as concentrated sulfuric acid, chlorinated solvents and caustics.

A highly cross-linked, Novolac epoxy lining system applied at a nominal thickness of 140 mil/3.5 mm, Stonchem 678 is designed to withstand thermal shock, thermal cycling, static cracks, permeation, and abrasion. The solution guarantees to protect the flooring and surrounding infrastructure of the facility from corrosion or damage caused by exposure to harsh chemicals.

David Priest, Key Account Manager and Head of Marketing at Kemtile, commented: “Our lining solution will prevent corrosion of the underlying substrate, preserving the structural integrity of the floor and avoiding potential safety risks.

“The solution not only demonstrates longevity and durability but also meets the highest standards of safety and performance. The team seamlessly delivered the project within one month without causing any downtime.”

David added: “The client said our solution will enable them to comply with safety regulations, minimising the risks associated with chemical spills, leaks, or splashes.”

“We’re confident the client’s facility will benefit from our durable lining system.”
