A leading player in the food and beverage sector has upgraded the flooring in its baby food manufacturing process area using Stonhard’s Stonchem 801 coating system.

The installation improves chemical resistance, reduces maintenance needs, and lowers the risk of operational downtime from failing floor coatings.

Our team identified that the existing flooring in a key area working at ultra-high temperatures had suffered chemical attack from routine cleaning-in-place (CIP) processes, leading to the deterioration of the existing flooring system.

This degradation posed risks to operational safety, hygiene, and long-term floor durability.

In additionally to dealing with a failing floor, the client required a solution that could withstand heavy foot traffic, equipment movement, and stringent food processing hygiene standards while minimising production interruptions during installation.

The client partnered with Stonhard, a global manufacturer and installer of industrial linings, for a comprehensive turnkey solution.

They dealt with concrete substrate repairs and reinforcement, implemented a thorough preparation of the surface before  the application of 309 m² of Stonchem 801 over the failing substrate and finishing to ensure seamless coverage.

Stonchem 801 is a vinyl ester based coating system renowned for its exceptional chemical resistance.

The upgraded process area now features a durable, floor that protects against ongoing CIP chemical exposure.

Maintenance requirements are significantly reduced, and operational risks associated with floor deterioration are minimized. The project supports the client’s commitment to efficiency, safety, and hygiene compliance, while ensuring the long-term resilience of its production infrastructure.

“Choosing Stonhard’s turnkey solution gave us confidence in both the product performance and installation quality,” said a representative from the manufacturers.

He added: “Stonchem 801 provides the chemical resistance we needed, helping protect our facility and maintain hygiene standards for years to come.”

Jamie Cook at Kemtile, a division of Stonhard, commented: “This installation highlights how our turnkey solutions, combining innovative material technology with expert installation, can deliver cost-effective, long-lasting protection for demanding food and beverage environments.”
