We are celebrating with Nathan Chandler this month who has been newly promoted. Here he shares career advice, explains about how building strong relationships with staff and customers is key to success at Kemtile and reveals he likes to DJ in his spare time.

What is your role at Kemtile?

I have been an Estimator at Kemtile for around two years now, but I have recently been newly promoted to an Estimator-Trainee Surveyor.

Can you share a bit about your background and experience in the flooring industry?

I first started off as a Setting-Out Engineer, which I did for about four years, then unfortunately COVID struck and a lot of changes were made at the company. I then began working as an Assistant Technical Co-ordinator which in fact was an Estimator’s role for a groundworks and construction company and I was there for around three years. I then went into estimating for a painting and decorating firm for a short period before applying for the estimator role at Kemtile and have enjoyed it ever since.

Can you highlight a favourite project or accomplishment you’ve been involved in while working at Kemtile?

Recently getting my promotion as the new Estimator-Trainee surveyor is a big accomplishment for me.

What is the best career advice you have ever received?

To slow down and take a minute.

What is your favourite thing about working at Kemtile?

For me I think the working environment is one of my favourite things about Kemtile.
Whether it’s needing some assistance or a query you may have, someone always has the answer for you. We work well as a team in all aspects, and I think being able to have a laugh in the office is always a good thing. But when the work needs to be done, it gets done!

How would you describe the culture within the Kemtile team?

I think the culture of the Kemtile team is what makes the company as successful and good as it is. As I explained above there is always someone who is willing to help you and point you in the right direction. They are also very committed to building strong relationships with staff as well as customers.

Who are your key role models/inspirations?

I don’t really have a single role model in life, but I do take a lot of inspiration from my Mum and Dad.

Getting to know you…

What is your favourite

Book – I’m not a massive reader of books if I’m honest – But one I have been reading recently is Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Movie – Shaun of the Dead

Album – I’m into all types of genres of music, and my main favourite genre is House, but if I had to pick an album, it would be ‘AM’ by Artic Monkeys

Most people don’t know that I… Enjoy DJ’ing and making music!

In my spare time, I… like to go to the gym and go for big walks with my dog!
