Meet Wayne Briers, Operations Manager at Kemtile. From initially working in contracts to a busy job in operations, Wayne has over two decades of experience in the flooring industry…

Section 1: 5 Minute Q&A…

  • What is your role at Kemtile?

I’m an Operations Manager at Kemtile and I manage the construction side of the business. I’m responsible for streamlining operations by introducing standardised practices and assessing departmental performance to maximise revenue without compromising customer expectations.

I make sure we run as efficiently as possible by following agreed best practices. I try and keep everyone focused on delivering to those standards to help us be successful and deliver the top-notch flooring advisory and install service we are famous for.

  • Can you share a bit about your experience in the flooring industry?

I have worked at Kemtile since 2016, initially in the contracts department for six years, followed by a year in sales. I then moved into the role of Operations Manager. Before I came here I worked as a Contracts Manager for an industrial concrete floor installer and spent over a decade with a civil engineering company so do know this market well.

  • Can you highlight a favourite project you’ve been involved in

I like large turnkey projects, which involve lots of different skills like underground drainage installation, stainless steel channel construction, concrete slab laying, and resin application. However, I find smaller projects just as fulfilling as you then get much more personal interactions with the business owners who are directly investing in their projects. This is very satisfying.

  • What is the best career advice you have ever received?

I was once told: “When you feel overwhelmed, take yourself away from the chaos for an hour and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, just don’t repeat them.” This has served me well over the years.

  • What is your favourite thing about working at Kemtile?

The team. We have a great working relationship. There isn’t a problem or challenge we can’t provide a solution for between us, plus no two days are ever the same which keeps us well engaged!

  • How would you describe the culture of the Kemtile team?

It’s positive, hardworking, and open to innovation.

  • Who are your key role models/inspirations?

My role model is my NAN, she is from a past generation and deals with absolutely anything life throws at her without complaint.
