Here we spotlight Mike Sleight, who plays a pivotal role in the team with a plethora of experience in the flooring sector.
What is your role at Kemtile?
I'm an Account Manager. My role involves managing and developing accounts nationwide, building up relationships and giving customers confidence that Kemtile will provide the best possible solutions to their needs.
Can you share a bit about your background and experience in the flooring industry?
I came into the flooring industry when I left University, almost by accident. I was working as a labourer on site for a couple of weeks because some additional hands were required. This quickly transitioned into a permanent role in the warehouse/logistics side, then over time transitioned into an estimating role before then heading into a contract supervisor job.
I joined Kemtile in March 2019 working in the estimating department before then moving back into the contracts team, where I feel most at home!
I am now entering my 12th year in the industry – certainly time has flown! Having been in multiple positions throughout the business I do think this has given me a good all-round feel for the various departments and the varied nature of my role really keeps me interested.
Can you highlight a favourite project or accomplishment you’ve been involved in while working at Kemtile?
I wouldn’t say I have a favourite project as such, I enjoy them all! For me there is nothing better than being involved with the client from the very first meeting and developing that solution before then leading the team during the works and handing back over as a completed job.
What is the best career advice you have ever received?
There is no such thing as a stupid question.
What is your favourite thing about working at Kemtile?
The ability to travel and meet people all over the country, build relationships and seeing the solutions we put forward work for the client.
How would you describe the culture within the Kemtile team?
There is a wealth of experience here both in the office and on site and everyone works well together. It’s a friendly place which puts teamwork at the forefront of what we do.
Who are your key role models/inspirations?
I would have to say both of my parents. My dad Dave (who also works at Kemtile) has been in the industry for over 40 years and there are people and clients that knew him before I was born! His continued enthusiasm for this industry gives me the assurance it’s a good one to be in. Outside of work he has also massively changed his lifestyle recently to improve his health which is an impressive feat!
