This month we caught up with Sam who was promoted after just six months to take more of a lead in the estimating team with a wealth of commercial experience behind him. Here he speaks about the incredible knowledge base at Kemtile, a commitment to high standards and an out of office passion for online motor sport…
Can you share a bit about your background and experience in the flooring industry?
I started working in the flooring industry in 2012, as an Estimator, which I did for about four years, then I moved on to do the same role for a civil engineering contractor specialising in large highways schemes. I ended up in a lead position, managing the commercial aspect of highways and civil engineering schemes across Lancashire. After doing 10 years in the sector, I was ready for a change and applied for the role of Estimator-Surveyor at Kemtile.
Can you highlight a favourite project or accomplishment you’ve been involved in while working at Kemtile?
Well I got a promotion after just six months to become senior in my role here – so that was a definite highlight - and now play an active part in managing the whole estimating function for the business.
What is the best career advice you have ever received?
Do it right first time!
What is your favourite thing about working at Kemtile?
The knowledge base! There is always someone to turn to, whether for a technical query, or general commercial assistance. There are so many experienced people here. They are only too happy to help if there is something I am unsure of. The office banter is pretty good too and I like the fact that everybody is motivated to do the best they can to achieve the highest standards.
Who are your key role models/inspirations?
I don’t have one single role model, but I always try to discover the best qualities in individuals, take the good parts, and leave the bad!
