- What is your role at Kemtile?
I’m a technical service/contracts manager at Kemtile.
- Can you share a bit about your background and experience in the flooring industry?
I’ve been in the construction industry for around four decades now. I began by installing Tremco and Sika waterproofing systems for roofing, podium decks, and car parks. Over time, I expanded my expertise into concrete repair, fire protection, and eventually flooring systems. When Stonhard expanded into Europe and the UK, Niel Bennett, the former Tremco MD, joined Stonhard. Shortly after, I began installing Stonhard floor systems, which was around 35 years ago.
After a few years, I became a Crew Leader/Site Supervisor, managing installation crews while still actively working on the tools. Eventually, I transitioned to contract management, overseeing major projects for Stonhard both in the UK and internationally. Additionally, I have been involved in recruitment and training, encompassing everything from installation to sales.
After Kemtile became a division of Stonhard, I continued managing contracts and overseeing technical services, providing advice, specification guidance, on-site testing, and ongoing training.
- Can you highlight a favourite project or accomplishment you've been involved in while working at Kemtile?
Following the successful management of floor and lining systems at Fab 14 in Ireland, I was asked to lead Fab 24 in Israel for Stonhard. During the two-year project, we installed 40,000m2 of Stonchem lining systems and Stonhard flooring. This project was, and remains, one of the largest ever completed by Stonhard Europe.
- What is the best career advice you have ever received?
“DO IT ONCE, DO IT RIGHT!”
- What is your favourite thing about working at Kemtile?
Here at Kemtile, the leadership and management are really great to work for. They provide significant growth opportunities to help the team drive personal growth.
- How would you describe the culture within the Kemtile team?
The Kemtile team has an extremely knowledgeable culture with great ethics.
- Who are your key role models/inspirations?
My dad is a role model, a true gentleman, hardworking, and intelligent.
Brian Trautman is also an inspiration. He sold everything and set sail on SV Delos 12 years ago and is still exploring the world.
