A bakery manufacturer in Lancashire has invested in 450sq m of new walkways throughout its plant to better comply with health and safety regulations for staff and impress blue chip clients visiting the site.

The bakery is part of a global food manufacturing group and is a leading supplier of value-added grain-based and frozen food products for food service clients and consumer markets. Its Lancashire operation is a key part of the supply chain, serving many high street food outlets.

The team at Kemtile, who are part of Stonhard, a turnkey flooring manufacturer and installation business, rose to the challenge, the brief was to provide a high strength industrial flooring system to provide ultimate protection in heavy-duty environments & provide a high standard flooring solution which provides anti-slip properties along with longevity & hygiene.

The flooring experts used Stonproof CT5 to treat isolated cracks in the concrete floor, then laid Stonclad GS, a four-component, troweled, epoxy mortar system. This cures to an extremely hard, impact resistant mortar and provides high quality resistance to abrasion, wear and chemicals. The Stonkote HT4 coating was then applied to improve cleanability and further increase wear & slip resistance, along with providing a seamless gloss finish.

The work was completed in just two weeks to minimise disruption to the bakery operations. George Morton, who led the project from Kemtile, said the job was delivered to a tight timescale with low impact on baking operations.

He commented: “This meant careful consideration of type of products, method of install, good communication throughout and a clean and tidy working approach. We were delighted to extend the walkway throughout the plant in just 14 working days.”
