Kemtile has installed a 2800sqm. anti-static flooring system at a new EV component manufacturing facility in the North West.
The specialist flooring experts were contracted by Picow Engineering Group to support a major fit out for major global automotive supplier, based in Horwich.
Kemtile was asked to deliver a bespoke anti-static flooring solution to a main cleanroom area which is part of a new production line for next-generation electric car inverters at the Bolton plant.
They completed the work over six months in a series of stages firstly shot-blasting the old coating off the floor, treating any cracks found, then using a Standard primer before installing high strength epoxy flooring Stonclad GS to the concrete substrate.
The team then installed copper grounding strips - one for every 100sqm – then coated the floor with the newly launched product Stonkote® ESD in pewter texture 2.
Stonkote® ESD is a durable, epoxy coating specially engineered for reliable electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection.
It is a cost-effective flooring of choice for electronics manufacturing, packaging, assembly and test facilities, and in installations of highly sensitive electronic equipment. At the new site static created by foot traffic and trolly trucks could potentially damage highly sensitive component manufacture.
Stonkote ESD is also seamless and easy to maintain, making it ideal for clean environments and static control applications requiring chemical and abrasion resistance.
Picow handed the new cleanroom space over to the management team at the site, meeting the target deadline and marking a significant milestone. The installing of their advanced process equipment can now begin, ready for the next phase of automated manufacturing.
George Morton from Kemtile commented: “We have worked closely with Picow for over 13 years and our install team pulled out all the stops to hit the deadline and ensure a smooth handover to the client. Picow noted that the achievement was a testament to the close collaboration and expertise of everyone involved.”
Ben Birchall, Construction Operations Manager at Picow, added: “We have built up a lot of trust over the years with Kemtile. Access to newly launched products like Stonkote ESD together with their long-established install knowhow helped us deliver quality, cost-effective options at just the right time. A real team effort from start to finish.”
